So you have a weakness or two. Don't we all? Usually it has to do with the lack of skill or knowledge. Other times, it is due to the lack of drive, desire or motivation. Your fears and attitude contribute too.
Do you need to work on them? Yes, if your flaw is holding back your personal growth and affecting your relationships and profession.
Working on improving your weak points will make a difference in your future outcome. If you think that it's difficult, think about how you have acquired whatever strengths that you possess now. What and how did you do then? Didn't you start somewhere, did something and repeated it until you acknowledge it as your strong point? If you had done it once or more times and succeeded, you can do it again.
"Our strength grows out of our weakness." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
One of the questions that job interviewers like to ask is to list your strengths and weaknesses. Some people got caught here because they don't know what to answer. This is because they don't know what their strong points are and what they are weak at.
Learn about yourself. Become aware of your attitude, behavior and response. Do a little soul searching or ask those who are close to you to point it out. Examples of personal flaws that you may identify with are procrastination, impatience, moodiness, disorganized, etc. When you know your imperfections, you can find a solution to improve.
You will think, feel and behave the way you identify and label yourself. When you change your perception you'll think differently of yourself. If you keep thinking of your limitation or drawbacks, you will continue to produce the same actions and results. Start raising your thinking and your standards which will then correct your attitude.
Once you know what it is that you must strengthen and the reason for it, the next thing to do is find the knowledge and skill that you need to acquire. The easiest way to work on your shortcoming is to find role models who are already competent. Ask questions, listen, study and emulate them.
Using your creative imagination will help you change your self image and improve your limitations. Your mind is powerful and you can use it to imagine your desired outcome. Many studies by experts have shown that mental practice is as effective as physical practice and improves the quality of life.
Keep practicing and repeating the skill that you want to improve. Aim to progress a little each day. Anything that you have yet to develop the strength will require a lot of practice. After lots of repetition, you will become proficient and master your craft.
Unlearning and learning are necessary if you choose to improve yourself. Develop your curiosity and allow yourself to become a beginner again. Attend classes, read, watch and listen to educational or motivational programs and observe more.
