Benefits of Having a Support System

Having a support system or a network of friends is necessary in your journey for self improvement. You can do things alone but it takes a longer time and maybe, a lot of frustrations before you reach your target. People with low self esteem aren't able to overcome their problems without outside help.

Many individuals face relationship issues that badly affect their emotions and productivity. They may get into depression and submit to some kind of addictions. There are people who are not skilled or knowledgeable enough to undertake a task or solve a problem. So they make lots of mistakes. They lose their confidence and faith. They dare not take any more risk fearing that they may not be able to cope.

This is when they give up or give in. They don't know what to do next and where to turn to for assistance.

"Success depends on the support of other people. The only hurdle between you and what you want to be in is the support of other people." - David Joseph Schwartz

So where can you turn to?

If you have a support system, you know that's where you can reach out. A network of people who are understanding and sympathetic will act as your moral boosters. They've been there and done that so they can relate. When things look bleak, they will listen, offer ideas and assist you to find ways to solve your problems.

If you are looking for one, you can check it around your neighborhood. There usually are professional groups or coaching programs that have already been set up. You can even start a small peer group, become a leader or appoint one.

You can find diversified groups by searching through the Internet. Identify your needs and connect with the healthy and helpful groups who can help influence your thinking.

But it's not only about receiving.

Being in a support group is not only about receiving. Meeting up only when you are in trouble does not make you an active participant. You have to give. You should get to know each other in your group, interact and communicate regularly. You have to play your role in the support system.

Share your experiences, give your opinions and offer advice. Get together for constructive thinking. Ask questions and listen to the answers. Brainstorm ideas and debate to stimulate your thoughts. Your mind will become active. You will gain more friends and even admirers. You'll get inspired.

Having goals and step by step plans are essential to your success. But it can be hard at times, sometimes painful. You'll need your support system for back-up. Stick to your network of people during the good days and they'll be there for you when you need them.
