Self Motivation Tips and Techniques

Self motivation or personal motivation is the key to keep you going after your goals and dream. You are the only person who can uphold your enthusiasm. Knowing how to get motivated makes you persist no matter how long it takes or how many challenges you have to face.

Create a desire.

Having a desire to have, do or become is the first requirement. Let it be strong, passionate and powerful. Make sure that it is something that you want and not what somebody wants you go do. It is the force that will cause you to take action. Your consuming desire will keep your attention focused.


Keep your thoughts positive and optimistic.

Your thoughts are powerful and they grow larger when you dwell upon them. They manifest in your life in the form or experiences, people and events. Pause at regular intervals to check on what you are thinking and picturing in your mind. When you catch yourself think negative or disempowering thoughts, replace them immediately with empowering ones and focus on the positive.


Visualize the end result.

Use your creative imagination to picture the end result of your dream. Visualize this picture in great details every morning, night and at every opportunity. Whenever you feel down and uninspired, bring this picture up. Visualization is also a great tool to help you create a new self image and thus replace your limiting beliefs and fears.


Use positive affirmation to overwrite negative self talk.

Your self talk will interfere and try to sabotage your efforts. Write down several positive affirmations, read them and say to yourself as many times as you can and especially when the negative inner talks arise. Tell yourself that you choose and allow yourself to achieve your goals.


Take action.

Results come from action. Take lots of action. Positive results generate self motivation and self confidence. Do all that you can and the best that you can even if you don't feel like doing things. Soon it becomes a habit.


Take time for study.

Study from successful people and from self help books, programs and seminars. Find out what people do to keep their self motivation going and how they overcome their doubts and fears. Learn how to do things faster and better.


Choose to mix with optimistic people.

Optimism is contagious. One of the ways to motivate yourself is to stick around these people. They have nothing but good things to talk and discuss. They can become your source of inspiration when you need some additional stimulus.


Spend quiet time alone.

Every night, spend a little bit of time to journal your activities, thoughts, emotions and the lessons you have learned for the day. And during this period, relax your body and mind and release your stress and frustrations. It is also a good time to ask some questions and expect answers from within you.
