Self Improvement Advice and Tips

On this page, you can read self improvement advice, tips and ideas to help improve yourself. Self improvement is about putting in the efforts to help your self. Everyone has at least one area in his or her life where she neglects or hasn't put in enough efforts to develop or correct. This is what we often call our weaknesses.

If you don't work on your weak point or make corrective action, as time goes by, you will have to bear with the consequences of neglect or ignorance. Getting knee deep in debt, having health issues, relationship problems, and lack of money and success in your career and personal life are some of the results of negligence and a lackadaisical attitude towards your personal growth.

But many people instead of saying that they are weak at something, claim it as a personal trait. You hear people affirming phrases such as. "I'm stupid, I am forgetful, I was born to lose, I am unlucky in love, I am not good with money" and so on.

Self improvement advice No. 1 - Change your point of view

To start improving yourself, you must look at your incompetence as a weak point that needs some refinements instead of looking at it as a characteristic. Changing your perspective by simply changing your words and description about yourself will affect the way you think and behave.

So instead of saying I am stupid, tell yourself that you don't have the knowledge or skill at the present moment. If you are broke, it's okay to admit it. But don't leave the sentence hanging just like that. Tell yourself that you are broke right now. But you choose to easily and consistently attract money into your life from now on.

It sounds so simplistic but it does have a profound effect. Your brain will help you find the information or the answers to help find a solution so that you can solve the problem. The solution can come in many forms such as an insight or a thing that catches your attention.

Self improvement advice No. 2 - Be aware and alert

To be able to notice things, you must be in the state of awareness. Living in the now or the present moment is one of the ways. Too often, people move about in life without using their conscious awareness. Everything they do daily are based on habits and are preconditioned. They get into one state of mind to another based on what triggers their emotions.

Being aware and alert means noticing your feelings, your thoughts, behavior and reactions to things and people. It also means opening up your senses and appreciating the taste, sound, sights and feel of things happening around you.

When your mind is alert, you will notice how your response or action is affecting your well being. If you have made a mistake, you can immediately consider it as a feedback and make corrective action. If you have done well at something, you can give yourself positive reinforcement. You will also notice opportunities that you might overlook if you were just drifting along in life.

Self improvement advice No. 3 - Overcome Procrastination

One of the reasons why your personal finances are in a mess is because you didn't take the time to look at your financial statements, create a budget and manage your money. The possible reason that you are feeling stuck in your career and not getting any promotion is because you haven't improved your knowledge and skill to deserve an upgrade.

Some of the possible causes for your relationship problems could be lack of communication or listening skills, bad attitude or annoying behavior. And you have put off doing a self evaluation and making corrective action. There are many other negative consequences due to procrastination and the lack of self discipline.

The two easiest methods in overcoming procrastination are to write down what you want or have to do and should do and break down the steps. You will know exactly what you must do. And you won't feel overwhelmed because you have chunk down the tasks. You just have to pick one for the list of things to do and get it done. And when it is finished, you do another.

Self improvement advice No. 4 - Setting smart goals

What do you want to improve in your life? Why do you want to make the improvement? When do you want to achieve or accomplish your personal goals? How are you going to do them? How do you know that you have improved and grow?

You must have the answers to all the questions above. Setting smart goals is important regardless of what you want to acquire. If you want to improve your credit score or credit rating, increase your memory, overcome depression or lose weight, it has to start with writing down your goal.

Self improvement advice No. 5 - Acquire knowledge and skills

You are where you are now because of your present knowledge or skill. If you want to go further, improve and grow, you must acquire new knowledge and skills. You can get them from self help books, self help audio and seminars. Or why not register for a continuing education program or attend trainings and courses?
