Self Help Motivation and Articles on Motivation

Motivation is a force that inspires a person to take action. There are two types of motivation. One of it is extrinsic motivation in which an external stimulus or reward acts as a trigger to inspire or stimulate a person to act. The other type of motivation is intrinsic motivation.

Before anyone does anything, he usually would have asked the "what's in it for me" question or have pictured an image of the end result. If he has to see or know his reward before he acts and he takes action because of the incentive, it may indicate that he is an extrinsically motivated person.

An intrinsically motivated person does not require external incentive to spur him to take action. Something inside and within him cause him to take action instead of thinking of the reward.

Some people claim that intrinsic motivation is better. But for humans to feel motivated and stay stimulated, both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation should be present. No matter how committed a person feels toward his job or cause, he will face challenges, self criticism and other negative thoughts and people who may cause him to doubt himself. So he needs consistent external stimulation and self help motivation to keep going.

The Importance of Motivation

If you are a parent or a teacher, you know that without motivation, you cannot get children or teenagers to learn, read books and complete tasks. If you are a manager, you'll feel frustrated if your employee lacks the motivation to get her job done. And look at yourself. Why have you not developed the motivation to follow through with your exercise or weight loss plan?

This is one of the reasons why motivation is important. Without it, people will procrastinate, lose hope and faith and give up even before they have really done all they can and the best they can. It is essential to provide consistent external stimulation to yourself and others to avoid losing the inspiration to act.

The self help motivation techniques listed below may help keep you inspired. You can use these same techniques to motivate others.

Self Help Motivation Techniques No. 1 - Set a Specific Goal

Set a specific goal. Ask yourself questions. Find out what you really want. What kind of job would you like? Do you wish for more money? Do you yearn to get out of debt?

One of the most important things about goal setting is to write the reasons why you want to achieve the goal that you have set out to do. Picture the end result in detail and visualize it every day. This is one of the triggers that can push you to act.

Without goals and vision, you'll lack the drive to thrive. You'll spend your days upon awakening to bedtime doing the same routines. Your life will eventually become dull and uninspiring when there is a lack of anything essential in your life. You might end up diverting your frustrations and boredom on unproductive activities.

Self Help Motivation Techniques No. 2 - Assign a Deadline

Assign a time frame in everything that you do. Imagine what it would feel like if you procrastinate. It will push you if you don't want to disappoint yourself and when you know that you have to answer to yourself.

Self Help Motivation Techniques No. 3 - Impose Disciple

Discipline yourself to take action even if you don't feel like doing things. What it also means is that you may have to get rid of some of your bad habits and negative attitude.

Self Help Motivation Techniques No. 4 - Reward Yourself

After you have reached each milestone or completed doing something from your to-do list, reward yourself. Don't wait until you reach the ultimate goal because your psyche needs positive reinforcement.

Self Help Motivation Techniques No. 5 - Hang Around Motivated People

There is positive energy among positive and enthusiastic people. Spend more of your time with them and distance yourself from people who pull you down and drain your energy.

Self Help Motivation Techniques No. 6 - Feed Your Mind

Inspiration can arise after watching or listening to a movie, song and motivating speech. Reading an inspirational book will also inspire and trigger you to take action.
