Develop Will Power with these Self Discipline Tips
Self discipline can mean self control or will power. When you are disciplined, you take action even if you don't feel like doing it. According to Jim Rohn, it is the master key which unlocks the door to wealth and happiness. He further stated that self-discipline is the source of high self esteem and high accomplishment and the feelings of pride and satisfaction.
His statements are spot on. When you have developed self discipline, you are motivated to do things. You no longer procrastinate and as a result, you achieve your goals.
Write your goals together with the time you wish to accomplish them. This is a prerequisite to anything you want to do, have or be. You write them because writing imprints it on your mind.
Write down the reasons why you want to achieve the goals. It is important do this because without a purpose, your motivation will wane when you don't see an immediate result or when something else catch your attention and you lose focus.
One of the reasons why people who have written goals don't achieve them is because they cannot see the rewards. Another reason is because of fear such as the fear of failure. The thought of failing produces the feeling of pain and disappointment. So, to avoid the negative emotions, they don't begin or finish what they started.
The solution is to create mental pictures of success and accomplishments and to visualize these images consistently. Combine the visualization exercise with positive affirmations and a vision board to make it more effective and speed up the realization of your goals.
One of the possible reasons why you aren't disciplined enough is because you feel overwhelmed thinking of the process or the number of things that you have to do. When your life is disorganized and you don't have a "to do list," you don't know where and how to begin.
To solve the problem, list all the things you have to do and then pick one that you can take immediate action and do it. When this becomes a habit, you will inevitably do something each day.
At times, you may lose the motivation to carry on and feel like giving up. When it happens, take a short break. Read, listen or watch motivational and inspirational books, CDS or DVDs.
A software called mindmovies is a great tool that you can try out. With this software, you create a movie by placing pictures or images of the things you wish to experience in your life. You add positive affirmations and music to the images. You then download the movie on your computer and play it daily or anytime you need a pep-up or encouragement.
Here's a last self discipline tips. Be hard on yourself. Make a promise that by midnight, you must accomplish certain tasks, whether you like it or not. Make it a point that until you do the things that you should, you won't call it a day.
