Find role models in each area you wish to be good at and you will speed up your growth.

Role models are persons to look up to in particular behavioral or social roles for other people to emulate and imitate.

Each one of use are have the opportunities to experience life to the fullest. However, most people do not make enough attempts to shape their own destinies. They either have insufficient knowledge and skills or tried a few things and gave up. Worst of all is for not trying anything at all.

If you have tried and still have not achieved success, you can change the quality of your life by looking for a mentor, a hero or heroine for you to model.

If you had adapted admirable qualities from the adults in your life when you were a child, you would make a good modeler for others to mimic. However, in the absence of such people to look up to, other sources might have provided you with the qualities that made you attune to your behavior or character.

You can alter your behavior and achieve better results if you allow new people with set of characteristics of getting results to become your role models.

Who and why do you model, how do you do it and where do you find them?

  • Know what you want to model.

First of all you must know what set of characteristics, behavior or results you want to achieve. Knowing the qualities that you want to have, allow you to see that in others.

What you need is that something that you have not already known or unaware of and finding that someone to show you how to get there.

Whatever you want, someone else has already gotten the results. What you need to do is draw forth their knowledge, learn what they are doing, how they think and what are their beliefs that make things possible for them.


  • Find someone you respect and admire.

The people you work with, your family, your children, books, stories and many other sources are available.

You can allow several individuals to become your role models, each one helping you at different areas in your life. What matters most is what works and how they make things happen. People around you can provide you with new insights, ideas, strategies and choices.

If one of your weaknesses is making decisions, look for someone who demonstrates the capability to continually succeed in meeting up with challenges without compromising his personal values.


  • Read autobiographies and stories.

Everyone has a story to tell. Reading stories and autobiographies of people who have made it in spite of obstacles and difficulties is inspiring and motivating. It puts you in a position where you believe that you will eventually succeed.

Stories provide the reference experience that will guide you to avoid the mistakes and take the right path. Even if the characters are no longer in existence, they provide lessons and can liberate you from your limited thinking and saves you time and the pain and frustrations from your trial and errors.


  • Becoming a modeler.

You are being modeled without your realization. Your children, colleagues, and other people are either consciously or unconsciously emulating your qualities and strengths.

It is important that you develop a set of admirable characteristics for your children to copy and mimic. You are your children's idol, your spouse's strengths and an example to some others. People who are close and dear to you are watching and absorbing your conduct and beliefs and you are their shining example.

You need to become your own model too by adopting the qualities that you learn from the people you have emulated. It gives you an inner strength when you are able to overcome challenges and produce significant achievements.

You can become the person whom others look up to and provide the power and energy for them to achieve more in their lives. By doing that you increase your own personal growth and success in life.
