Life Pressures

Daily and life pressures and demands contribute to negative emotional energy, loss of focus and put a person in an unresourceful state of mind. With that, creativity and productivity decrease. It is followed by a sense of guilt for not having done what should have been accomplished.

Each day you may have to confront with peer pressure or the stress of trying to balance your career and personal life. These strains can make you do something against your values and that will cause anxiety. Financial difficulties bring the worst out of most of us. To some, this is their biggest challenge that they face daily.

Though there are certain situations that you can't change and have no control, there are many more that you can handle and take proactive action.

"People differ greatly in the amount of anxiety and worry they can stand. Some can endure a great deal without being adversely affected, while others soon show signs of strain. You should observe yourself closely, so that you understand your own powers of endurance. By this means you will learn to divest yourself before any harm is done." - Razi Kitab al-Muluki

How to Handle the Pressures and Demands

bullet2 Sort them out and get organized.

Almost all problems have their solutions. In order to solve them, you need to know what they are. Otherwise you get really confused. So write down what you think are your challenges and difficulties. After you do that, pick one that needs immediate attention and brainstorm ways to solve it.

Search for the answers from within you and from others who have solved similar problems. Look for the strategies. Plan your actions. Focus on getting it solved. Now at least you have placed yourself in a situation where your daily strains will serve you and assist you in increasing your personal growth.

bullet2 Put yourself in a resourceful state.

One way to put you in a creative state is to recall some experiences that you have handled well and successfully. Throughout your life, there must have been things that you have said or done that have improved your life or that of others.

If you can't find any, get a pen and paper and list down whatever you can think of that you have accomplished. Write even those things that you may at first think are not worth mentioning. That will get your creative juices flowing and will help you recall the moments that have enabled you to function at your best and how you have handled your previous pressures and difficulties.

If you can do it once, you can repeat it and even bring better results now that you know what works.

bullet2 Change your mindset and your attitude.

Why are you under constant stress and not living life fully? Most likely you have been neglecting what should have been done because you did not think of the consequences. You may have failed to pay attention and put in the disciplines to follow through certain habits that are necessary to create your better future.

So what's done is done. What you can do now is admit that you have not handled your life well and have put yourself in a tremendous amount of hardship. The next thing you need to do is change your attitude and your mindset. Isn't it a comfort to know that you can change any area of your life once you make a decision to do so?

Once you look at things differently, you will handle them in different ways. Instead of looking at yourself as a victim and your situation as a load of problems, you now can see yourself as the agent of change and your circumstances as useful lessons.

bullet2 Create balance.

List your values and put them in order. There are those things that are important to you. You are developing lots of stress and pressures because you are feeling overwhelmed from not knowing what's important. Because of this, you will tend to do what needs attention at the present moment.

The result is a feeling of imbalance and you put more weight on your shoulders to the point that you no longer can carry it much further and fall into a state of distress. So knowing the first thing in your life will help you choose and decide. You no longer have to fight within or on the outside but act on principles.

bullet2 Become more assertive.

What happens if you submit to everyone or everything that demand your attention? That's when the pressures build up because you have lost your autonomy. No matter what's going on around you, you can say "No" when you feel you should.

You have to develop firmness in your actions and communications. Remember that it's your life and nobody cares much. If you feel the same, you will end up living in a state of discomfort for the rest of it. You don't have to conform to all of the social or economic pressures. It's alright to break some rules if they don't serve you and give you a better peace of mind.
