The Power of Positive Affirmations - How to Use Daily Self Affirmations and Positive Phrases

You are always talking to yourself. These self talk or inner talks are usually negative statements and questions such as "Why am I always tired? Why am I always hungry? When you ask the "why" questions, your mind will provide you with all the answers in the form of mental images.

And when you say statements such as "I am always making mistakes" "I hate my life" "I am fat" "I am stupid" or "He doesn't love me anymore," the subconscious mind will affirm your thoughts. It will bring out mental pictures from your stored memories corresponding to your self-talk to confirm your beliefs about yourself and what you think of something or someone.

Negative self talks are the cause of negative related emotions which will then make you act in a certain manner. If you don't put a stop to the ongoing negative chatters going on inside your head, you cannot make positive changes or improvement.

The solution is to become aware and alert of your self talk, command it to stop immediately and replace it with positive affirmations and mental images. By repeatedly using positive affirmation to replace negative self talk, you can change your pattern of thoughts and beliefs which will affect your emotions and behavior.

If this is your first time learning to use positive affirmations, it is best to learn how to relax first. When your body and mind are relaxed, the brainwaves slow down and enter into an alpha level. In this state, your mind is quiet and very receptive to accept positive suggestions.

You can reach the alpha level through deep breathing, progressive relaxation exercise, yoga and meditation. If you have trouble relaxing, you can use tools such as brainwaves entrainment or guided self hypnosis.

Affirmations are important components of visualization or mental imagery. If you want self affirmations to work, use both affirmation and visualization together. What you need to do is make a mental picture of what you want to have, experience or change. As you keep the image in your mind, affirm positive statements such as "I choose to manifest this image or something better into my life."

Repeat the visualization exercise daily and add more details to your mental picture. Write more positive affirmations and use them during your visualization exercise. Do this exercise with intensity and make it so real. Your mind will accept the image as true and are really happening in your life.

When creating or making affirmations, it's important to state your words in a manner that your inner self won't argue or question them. If for example you affirm something such as "I am rich" but deep inside you know that you are broke, it will cause an internal conflict. You will hear yourself say something like "Who do you think you are kidding?"

So when making positive affirmations, use the word "choose" at the beginning of your sentences. When you use the word choose, you are telling yourself that you have a choice and it avoids internal conflict. Here are a few examples.

  • I choose to attract a loving and satisfying relationship.

  • I choose to love and appreciate myself.

  • I choose to easily and consistently earn a monthly income of $7,000.00 or better than that.

  • I choose to weigh 110lbs by 27th June.

  • I choose to act confidently and make it easy for me to feel more confident.

Use positive words that evoke positive emotions. State your affirmations in the present tense. You are not deluding yourself but letting your mind become aware that what you are stating is within your reach. Remember that your words influence the way you think, feel and behave so it is very important to use them the right way.

Besides combining positive affirmations with visualization, use this additional technique.

  1. Focus on one area you want to improve such as prosperity, health or self esteem. Make a few positive affirmations on the particular subject. In addition to affirming the positive statements during your visualization exercise, write them on a piece of care and carry it with you where you can see and affirm it regularly.

  2. Cut and paste pictures and create a collage or vision board to stimulate your mind and emotions.

  3. Pause in between your daily routines to check your thoughts and emotions. Notice what you are feeling and try to find out what triggers the emotion. By interrupting your old pattern of thoughts and negative self talk and replacing them with positive affirmation you can gradually change your beliefs.

  4. Write a positive statement each morning and night in your journal to remind your subconscious of the person that you are becoming.
