What is Personal ResponsibilityPersonal responsibility is an obligation to oneself. It is your individual duty to ensure your good character and behavior irrespective of how you were brought up and what kind of conditioning you have received. Whether you like it or not, you must accept personal accountability for the mess and disorder that you have created in your life. Life always gives you the consequences related to your actions or inaction. The onus is on you to amend your mistakes and negligence. As an adult, you hold several roles, functions and responsibilities; that of a parent, an employer or employee, a spouse, a consumer, a citizen, etc. It is unavoidable that you'll face relationship issues and other problems. Your strengths, emotions, and character may be challenged or tested. As a responsible person, you should be able to determine what's right or wrong, what's good or bad and what's within your control. Individual responsibility also includes being accountable for the degree and level of your health, wealth, success and happiness. Why is Personal Responsibility and Accountability ImportantIf you are not taking personal responsibility, you have the inclination to put the blame on your lack of personal growth and development to everyone else but yourself. When you are looking for who's at fault or what's wrong, you cannot advance in life because you have the wrong focus. The solution is to forgive so that you can forget and change your focus. It doesn't matter what someone has done or what has transpired in the past. Your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual growth are more important because where you put your energy on today will determine how you will live in the future. Being accountable is the right attitude and it shows your maturity and wisdom. When you have the right attitude, you are less likely to create unnecessary problems in your life like overspending and being in deep debt. If difficulties do happen out of your control, you are more likely to respond to them optimistically and bounce back. If you have kids or are in charge of managing employees you'll understand the importance of individual responsibility. And one of the best ways to encourage personal accountability among your staff and to your children is to become the role model. You must teach, show the way and take the lead and then behave and act responsibly yourself. Your Response or CommentWhat do you think?
