Persistence and Perseverance

If you are wondering what is the difference between persistence and perseverance here's the explanation given by the National Constitution Center. Persistence means sticking to a course of action and perseverance involves sticking to a belief or idea; that is being steadfast or loyal.

These two qualities are ingrained in successful people whom many consider them as lucky. In actual fact, they have been keeping their fires burning. They attain success and glory from their tenacious efforts and steadfast pursuits.

Many people who aren't successful give up too soon. They stop to do the things or take the actions required when they either outlive their interests or when difficulties show up.

You can ultimately achieve almost all of your goals if you persist and persevere despite hardship and obstacles. The personality traits of people with persistence and perseverance are seen in those who...

  1. Have a consuming goal and form a mental vision of achieving that goal and clinging to it through thick and thin.

  2. Sticking to their goals and continuing to repeat certain actions or behaviors and endure until the end when they see results.

  3. Putting the fear of failure behind and acting with courage. They possess the inner strength to go forth.

  4. They have patience and they understand that great triumphs are achieved after weeks, months or even years of hard work.

  5. Keeping their faith alive even when things do not look encouraging.

How to Develop Persistence and Perseverance

Create a Consuming Desire

What do you want? Examine your life and make a decision to become more and to have more than what you have been accepting in your life. Knowing what you want and why you want them will propel you to take action. When things don't work out, refuse to get caught in not getting the result. Back up a little bit, and go another way. As long as you keep in mind what it is that you want, you will find another way.

Work Harder and Smarter

Positive action toward the achievement of your goals is the antidote to fear and worry. Doing more, getting yourself busier and trying more things will make a difference in your outcome. Making little changes and taking action in bits and pieces will steadily accumulate and result in a forward progress each and every day.

Imagine and Visualize

By using your imagination creatively and positively, you enable yourself to visualize the experience that you wish to affect your reality. The way you see something in your mind will affect the way you feel and therefore the next action that you are going to take. Your imagination of your future outcome will stimulate and mobilize your activities.

The Mind Movies is a helpful visualization tool. You are able to choose your own images or pictures of success, add positive affirmations and music to evoke your emotions. Instead of creating your images mentally and watching it in your mind daily, you watch the Mind Movies on your computer screen.

Have Faith and Do Not Quit

When you feel that you are not attaining what you wish for, you are linking to a lot of pain in getting it. You are allowing the discomfort to bind you. You must change your focus. Think about what you will do instead of whether you can do it and persist with determination.

Act boldly as if it were impossible to fail and pretend that you have gotten around your limitations. Whatever you are striving for takes time and you achieve them by taking one step at a time. As long as you make a resolution to succeed and maintain your persistence and perseverance, you will and you must succeed.
