"She acquires momentum as she advances." - Virgil

A philosopher coined the idea that momentum means amount of motion. How then is impetus linked to personal growth and success?

Any kind of development is a process involving a series of actions and natural occurrences. Your speed and drive determine the amount of progress you make.

The difference between great achievement and living in mediocrity could be as simple as persistently putting in the efforts even if you don't feel like doing them.

How to gain and maintain momentum.

  • Desire and goals.

Your desire is one of the stimulus. Writing down your goals is the first of the few things that you need to keep feeling inspired. They should be big and you need to think long term. You should have powerful reasons to enable you to keep your energy and determination going.

Remembering your desire and passionate goals are the things that will keep you unstuck when you meet challenges that are almost inevitable. You are able to force your way through any kind of barriers instead of putting the brakes on.

  • Take positive actions and get results.

Once you know what you want to achieve, you need to begin, take action and move. After the initial take-off, it gets easier for you to advance. Even a small positive action taken daily gets the momentum going and bear some kind of results.

Results are the measure of your progress. Sometimes you can't see immediate gratification. Don't wait for it to come, just push yourself further. Never allow a day to pass with taking some positive actions. Take notice of those small but significant daily progress.

  • Focus.
focus

Focused thoughts and actions provide power. You should fix your attention and energy toward the fulfillment of your objective. Stick to one goal at a time and keep your mind and images straight on the actions that you need to take.

Your pace improves with focus of attention because you can see the direction that you are heading to produce the outcome that you envision. It gives you the strength to work harder.

  • Keep learning.

Reading is one of the best ways to gather ideas and broaden your knowledge. When you feel like losing your drive, read inspiring books especially on how other people push themselves in spite of their challenges.

Surround yourself with positive minded and active people who have lots of drive to produce outstanding results.

Feed your mind with positive talks instead of exchanging dialogs with your inner self. You can do that by listening to success audio programs.

"Success requires first expending ten units of effort to produce one unit of results. Your momentum will then produce ten units of results with each unit of effort." - Charles J. Givens
