Why You Should Make Better Choices

Each day you have the opportunity to make better choices to improve your health, lifestyle or relationship. If you choose to do the things and think the way you've been thinking, you'll get the same outcome as you always have.


If you want a different result, you must do things and think differently. The decisions that you make will determine your next course of actions and hence the consequences.


Your choices will lead to success or failure, health or illness and pain or pleasures. You can opt for rest instead of work, entertainment instead of studying or remain poor or become wealthy.


Most of your decisions were made from your collection of stored ideas, thoughts, beliefs, values and assumptions. If you continue to use the same style of thinking and referencing and make bad choices and judgments, nothing is going to change. You'll repeat the same mistakes and errors.



How to Make Better Choices and Decisions


bullet2 Change the way you think.

You attract into your life the people and situations from your habitual and unconscious thoughts. In order to get a different result, generate new ways of thinking and believing to replace the old way of rationalizing. The purpose is to find new and better solutions.


There are numerous possibilities and alternatives to choose from any given set of problems or situations. Deliberately barrage your mind with different and new messages to overwrite your old pattern of thinking and evaluating.



bullet2 Brainstorm and mindstorm ideas to obtain list of resources and options.

Write down your ideas and thoughts and keep listing them until you have at least half a dozen of them. There is more than one way to find a solution to your dilemma. More options and alternatives will prevent you from compromising with your limitations.



bullet2 Learn from your success as well as from your mistakes.

You can learn from your errors and mistakes from previous decisions. They offer you the chance to know what didn't work and to correct them. If you have succeeded once, you can repeat the same things to get the same results or to get more of it. You will learn something from everything that you do and that will lead you to make better choices the next time around.



bullet2 Ask better questions.

The quality of the questions that you ask yourself and others determine the answers you get. Ask the right questions and you will get correct answers. Start asking more on how to solve your problem instead of whether you should do something. Whenever you ask yourself the "how to" questions, your mind brings back answers that will help you take the right actions.



bullet2 Put yourself in a resourceful state of mind and body.

The right diet, good health, positive emotions and supportive company affect the state of your mind and body. When you are in a positive and optimistic state of mind and body, you make better choices and decisions.


When you don't feel well and your thoughts are in chaos, you can't think constructively. Aerobic exercise keeps your body fit. Relaxation, meditation and deep breathing calm your mind and allow you think better. Both states will improve your ability to think creatively and make better choices.



bullet2 Understand your motives.

If you have not been making progress, look at the causes that have shaped your thoughts, feelings, behaviors and attitudes. Everything that you do, feel, think and who you allow into your life matters. Understanding helps you choose wisely and know what is holding you back.



bullet2 Take responsibility.

Take responsibility of your own personal growth and success. You have to help yourself if you wish to make a difference. You are responsible to choose your emotions, the people and the outcome in your life. When you think that you have no choice, you are actually choosing to stick to your existing set of old rules and beliefs.
