"The limits of my language stand for the limits of my world." - Ludwig WittgensteinLanguage is a communication tool. It is used in the form of written or spoken words. Other ways of expressing one's thoughts and in getting a message across is using body or sign language. Your everyday conversations convey information of your ideas, beliefs, interpretations and evaluations of your internal reality. You have a purpose to accomplish. It is either to express your experiences, to influence, to encourage or to affect someone else's consciousness. What you say to yourself and others either by using words or your body affects the states of mind. Your vocabulary, tone of voice and physiology can stimulate feelings and understanding. Your speech can make someone shut down, provoke her or induce the other person to respond positively. If you want to improve your life, it is important that you say the right words and listen and study your speech pattern. You use words to talk to yourself. And the conversations you use on yourself influence your nervous system. Your words will determine your outlook and the actions that you are willing to take. You need to have control over how you phrase your statements because it shows how you see yourself and your beliefs about possibilities. How do you improve your language to propel you for self-improvement?
You have to constantly remain alert to your speech. Ignoring your limited vocabulary will cause problems in the future. Stop, pause and listen to any false information that your are interpreting. Hear your inner conversations and listen to the stories you are persuading yourself to do. Snap out of your normal everyday patterns of speech. Challenge your existing assumptions. Plant firmly a different command.
Your inner speech affects your outer experience. Change your consistent complaining, whining and apologies and speak in positive tones. Instead of saying things in the negative, talk to yourself and others with constructive words. Use phrases in the present tense. Talk to yourself as if you are already achieving your goals. Talk about things that matter. Create and modify. If you control your vocabulary, you will control your destiny.
Another way to change your communication is to change your actions and movements. You can change any day you wish. Positive actions produce positive results and affect your motivation. With better results you gain more confidence and build a higher self-esteem and that will change the way you communicate to yourself. No matter what situation you're in, you have created part of it. You can discipline yourself to change how and what you say to create a different experience in your life. |
Quote"Whether it is in the beginning to help you get started or in the middle to keep you on track, your language can have a great impact on your attitude, actions and results." - Jim Rohn
