"It is even better to act quickly and err than to hesitate until the time of action is past." - Karl von Clausewitz

Many people don't get what they want because they hesitate to make the critical decision that can change their lives. The main reason for the hesitation is that they don't want a thing badly enough and they lack self-confidence.

They let their thoughts linger and allow the monologues in their heads go back and forth until they get "cold feet" and are reluctant to take action. Soon enough their feelings of uncertainties, fears, worries and obstacles cloud their minds.

They vacillate further and their dreams will die a sudden death. They never get the chance to experience the joys of accomplishments.

How to overcome the habit of hesitating.

  • Be knowledgeable.

One of the reasons that you delay in making the decisions and doing what you should is that you have not acquired sufficient amount of information to make judgments. Lack of skill is also another problem that is holding you back and making you slow to act.

The solution is to educate yourself. You can find the topic of your interest from books, video and audio programs.

You can ask those who know what you don't. You can copy and imitate others. You learn the skills and practice consistently.

  • Having definite goals and purpose.

If you have been unwilling to take action in spite of having listed your goals, probably it's because you don't have big enough reasons to want them. Ask yourself why you want to achieve them. Check your list and find out if they are yours or are you trying to fulfill other people's needs.

Focus on what you want and not on imaginary obstacles. Visualize and picture the outcome of having achieved them.

  • Push your fears aside.

Are your fears making you falter? Your fears of feeling humiliated, or not getting the approval, of failing and making mistakes, create mental roadblocks. Once you accept these obstacles as true in your mind, you freeze and hesitate. They will destroy your ambition. In order to conquer your fears you must question them and break them apart.

You must believe in yourself and have the determination to take massive action. Do the thing that you don't want to do but must do. Repeat them often enough and you will develop a new habit of becoming decisive and proactive.

  • Create a sense of urgency.

When you hesitate to do what you must do with your life, you are putting it on hold. You wait around for the right time and the right person to show up. Of course that don't happen in real life.

You must make things happen and attract the people and the situations that you want into your life. You must do it quickly for you never know how much time you have left on your sojourn on this earth.

Take care of your health and fitness while you are healthy and able. Manage your career and finances during this period when there are great opportunities around you now. Nurture your relationships. Allow them to flourish and grow.

Work on yourself and your personal growth. Become the person that you should and don't hesitate any further. Leave yourself no reason for future regrets.
