The Act of Giving

Giving is an act of generosity or benevolence. When you give something to somebody without expecting compensation, you are expressing love and compassion.

Your willingness to share your wealth and prosperity with others indicate that you are grateful for what you've been bestowed with. Your acts of kindness bring about happiness, delight and joy to the receivers.

Being generous or charitable comes in many forms. You can donate money or other material things like used books, furniture, clothes and toys. Or you can donate your time by volunteering to teach, offer support to a cause or help raise funds. You can donate your blood which can help save a life. These are all benevolent and philanthropic acts that will help improve the quality of human life.

Zig Ziglar quoted that you can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want. What it means is you pay it forward. It works on the law of reciprocity and karma. You get what you render. You do a good deed first and someone somewhere will repay your acts of goodwill and charity.

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill

What You can Contribute or Give

Feedbacks and words of encouragement

Provide feedbacks, advice and comments that will help people improve and make their lives better. Offer words of encouragement, moral support and hope to those who are fearful, hurting or grieving. Compliment others to show your admiration and appreciation.

Attention

Acknowledge the presence of the people in your life. Offer attention by listening to what they are saying. Learn to become more sensitive to their needs. Observe and try to understand the subtle messages they are trying to convey and touch their hearts by showing compassion. Practice courtesy. Remember to say "thank you." Include hugs, smiles, kisses, calls or notes in your day.

Time

Invest your time to listen, to teach and to serve. Devote your time to visit the sick and lonely people. Create as many opportunities as you can to touch the lives of your children, spouse and parents because charity begins at home.

Heart and soul

Don't limit yourself. Whatever you do, don't complain. Do it willingly and with the greatest pleasure.

Your knowledge and talent

People are hungry for knowledge, ideas and information to make their lives better. Share and impart your knowledge to help people refine their thinking and get better understanding. Show them what they can do and how to do things. Assist them in bringing out their best to help build their confidence and esteem. What you teach, you learn.

What you don't need

Look at your closet and storage area. What are the things that you've not used for the last six months or more? What are the stuff that you've never used or don't need? Let them go and offer to those in dire need.

What you need

Peyton Conway March mentioned that what we crave most in life which is happiness, freedom, and peace of mind are always attained by giving them to someone else. So if you want love, give a hundred percent or more. If you wish to fill your life with joy and happiness, make other people happy. If success is your goal, help other people succeed and win. If you want to improve your finances, tithe.

What you gain is a personal victory. Each generous act you perform builds your character. The best return from your deeds is what you become.

Pat yourself for the aids, contributions or donations that you have bestowed upon others. Seeing the smiles and happy faces caused by your benevolent acts is one the most satisfying and exhilarating feeling. You've made someone's day better. And yours too.
