The Importance of Being Flexible

Being flexible and versatile is an advantage if you have the desire to succeed at anything you do. You will experience day to day difficulties, delays and frustrations in your demanding work and life and when dealing with people. There are times when you have to deal with situations that do not fit in or interrupt your schedules.

One of the most frustrating things is when you have done your best to reach your goals but yet things still go wrong or you don't get what you have aimed for. Here's when the importance of flexibility comes in. Flexibility or adaptability is being responsive to change, the ability to fit in a changed situation or to alter and modify accordingly.

Without resilience, you might stubbornly hold on to some things that don't work and repeat your mistakes. Being rigid and inflexible will cause undue stress.

How to Stay Committed but Flexible

bullet2 Having the correct mindset.

There is a popular saying that nothing is set in stone. It should apply to your mindset. Whatever it is that you have chosen to believe and assume can be challenged and is changeable. Develop a sense of curiosity, shift your views and look at yourself, things and people in new ways.

bullet2 Willingness to change.

Being rigid with yourself and your rules indicate that you are resisting change. You don't have to remain consistent to the old you and the things that you have said or done in the past. Change is absolutely necessary for personal growth and success especially if what you have done have not worked out. When you improve yourself, your world will change for the better.

bullet2 Doing things differently.

You have to decide to do things differently to experience different results. It does cause certain amount of discomfort and emotional upheavals but you need to detach and rise above your present level. Remain aware and alert so that you can implement the next course of action.

bullet2 Learning to deal with difficult people and situations.

You can't change events and people but you can adjust and modify your behavior and habits. You may have to learn to communicate and influence others more effectively. You may also need to look at your own attitude on how you judge and perceive others and things.

bullet2 Taking personal responsibility.

Take responsibility for the mistakes that you have made, learn from them and bounce back. Amend your mistakes, give yourself another chance and another go to make things right. If you are willing to remain flexible, you will find another way to do things or obtain answers to your problems.
