Feeling Lost

If you are feeling lost right now, it's probably because you have come face to face with a major loss, problem or disappointment and have to deal with many other complicating situations related to the issue. You might feel dazed and confused, unable to think clearly and intelligently. You might even feel helpless because you realized that you've run out of options.

At this point of time, there's a lot of internal confusion going on. You'll feel disconnected from the world. You don't know which direction to go. You don't know what to do next. You'll begin to wonder whether what you've been doing is worth it. You may lose faith. Sometimes you don't know what's wrong or right anymore.

How to Overcome Feeling Lost and Confused


bullet2 Look inside.

What do you do when you lose something? You'll look for it right? You'll search everywhere possible to find it.


The same goes with losing your sense of direction in life. But the difference is you don't have to look in all places. You look inside.


Ask yourself questions. Look at where you are right now and where you want to go. Write down your thoughts so that it's easier for you to see. Take them apart so that you can see through the confusion.



bullet2 Shift your attention.

Things may have gone wrong or you may have been let down. The more you give your attention to it, the more you will feel out of sorts.


You may not have been directly responsible for whatever has happened. But you have control over what you want to experience next. If happiness is what you seek to achieve, then you have to think and do everything that you can to move towards it. It could mean doing something that you don't normally do.


You must keep reminding yourself that your mind holds great power. If you deliberately command and direct it, your mind will follow your orders.



bullet2 Remember your dreams and goals.

One of the reasons to have a long list of your life goals is to keep you working and moving towards them. You can't get swayed away for long and feel lost if you have dreams to achieve. There's always something else to think about and to do.


Accept that your predicament is a phase and a lesson that you have to learn. Focus on your goals and remember your dreams. It'll help get up again after a fall. Getting back on track is something that you must do to get unstuck.



bullet2 Talk to someone and listen.

Avoid anyone who is equally feeling lost as you are. You won't benefit from the interaction. Seek someone who is involved with life. Pay attention and listen with an open heart and mind. Sometimes a casual remark can change how you have perceived things and cause you to take action.



bullet2 Sleep on it.

Instead of tossing and turning in bed all night worrying, try to sleep on it. Maybe you need several nights of sleeping on it to see things in a different light. Let go off your concerns. Tell yourself that you are releasing them to the universe. Have faith that you will get some answers. Once you do get the answer, trust your intuition and act upon the knowledge.



bullet2 Get out.

When feeling lost pay a visit again, don't drift along with it and allow yourself to sink deeper. Get out of the darkness by seeking for light. The light could be the next person you talk to, a sermon, and a long walk, from reading books, seeing the suffering of others or being among nature.
