What is Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT stands for emotional freedom technique. It is an alternative healing method created by Gary Craig. The way it works is by tapping on certain points on the body to release specific hurt or pain that have affected a person. It's a combination of the science of acupuncture, mind body and energy medicine.

You don't require any special tools for EFT therapy. Your hands and fingers are all that you need to apply the EFT technique.

The explanation behind the emotional freedom technique is that our bodies have currents and connections throughout. We conduct and transmit electricity all the time. We do need this energy flow for normal body functions and for our senses to operate effectively.

This discovery of this internal electrical or energy pathway was made by eastern philosophers and medical practitioners. The Chinese practitioners then developed a system of tracking the energy points of the body and tracking how the energy moves through the body. These electrical circuits or meridians were then used to treat all sorts of ailments. Emotional freedom technique uses many of the points as that used in acupuncture.

Since a person's attachment to emotional pains, traumas and phobias influence the way she behaves, act and reacts to people and situations, the first thing to do when using eft is to deal with the emotions and thought patterns. Once you have sorted that out and have become well-versed with the technique and familiar with EFT tapping, you can work on tackling physical issues.

Other than not requiring any kind of tool, emotional freedom technique doesn't require you to psychoanalyze your feelings and go back in time to find the cause of your emotional pain. What you need to do is tap the ends of the meridian points to release the negative related energy.

Since you might not know the specific meridian to tap, eft suggests that you tap all of the ones that are known to cause problems. If the point that you tap isn't it, there is no harm done. If it is, then you have already cleared the "blockage." Over tapping has no side effect.

How to Do EFT - the Emotional Freedom Technique

Repeat an affirmation three times while tapping the karate chop point. An example of the affirmation is. "Even though I have this (state your issue) I deeply and completely accept myself." What you are doing here is acknowledging your problem and creating self acceptance.

After you complete the first technique or the karate chop, tap your fingers on all the important meridian points using the tips of your index and middle fingers. Tap each point around seven times and at the same time repeat your affirmations.

Here is the list of the eft tapping points:

  1. EB: at the beginning of the eyebrow

  2. SE: at the outer side of the eyebrow on the bone outside the eye socket

  3. UE: under the eyebrow on the cheek bone, right under the middle of the eye

  4. UN: Under the nose and before your top lip

  5. CH: Just below the lip and just before your chin begins

  6. CB: The place between where the breastbone, collarbone and first rib meet

  7. UA: Under arm - for women, it's at the nipple level. Men should be able to figure that out.

  8. Head: Above your head.

Here's a video to show you the tapping points and how to tap.

How Effective is Emotional Freedom Technique

Proponents of EFT say that the eft technique works while critics are sceptical. The best way to find out is to try it yourself and make your own conclusion. It's easy and doesn't cost a penny except a little bit of your time initially to identity the tapping point and to practice it. Once you are familiar, you can do in anytime and anywhere convenient.
