Determination plus Discipline Equals Willpower

Having the determination, purpose or resolution and going through the disciplines of taking consistent and constructive actions are two of the reasons why people succeed in achieving their goals.

And you too can become successful if you resolve to do so. What this means is, you make a firm and serious decision about what you want to attain and promise yourself that you will not allow anyone or anything to sway or divert your attention, until you accomplish your objective.

This is how you develop your willpower, the strength of mind to carry out what you set out to achieve despite challenges, obstacles and difficulties.

What Happens if You don't Have Self Determination?

You won't reach your goals or whatever you said you would do or stop doing. This is one of the reasons why your new year's resolution doesn't work. It's not a resolution. It's just a phrase everyone uses without understanding what it implies.

A resolution is a determination, a firmness of mind, a fixed decision to do something. A determined person has thought things through. He has developed the conviction that he will make it.

How to Have Determination

bullet2 Badly want it.

You must badly want it, whatever your goal is. You know that you want it badly if you keep thinking and talking about it. It's also when it becomes the first thing that comes to your mind when you awakened in the morning and the last thing that you think of before you sleep at night. You'll be driven to take action and make progress.

bullet2 Be disciplined.

Jim Rohn quoted that discipline is the bridge between goals and its accomplishment. Furthermore as mentioned earlier, when discipline is combined with a firmness of purpose you generate your will power. Discipline is the link and the determining factor.

So do what you must and should do even when you don't feel like it. If by the end of the day, you have not done what you have set out to do, get it done before you go to sleep.

bullet2 Make a promise to yourself and keep it.

Make a pledge to yourself that you will go beyond what you have so far achieved. It takes a lot of guts to keep to your own words but once you do that, you can look up and feel proud of yourself. You build character by being steadfast and giving yourself wholeheartedly to your purpose.

bullet2 Focus and have self control.

You need to have a razor sharp focus and concentrate on your goals. You must have control over how you react to situations, events, people and your emotions. Focus your energy on your objective and you will prevent negative things and people around you to affect your thinking.

bullet2 Visualize the end in mind.

Imagine the feelings that you will experience when you reach your objective. Visualize the person that you will become. Keep the image of the end of your goal in mind.

bullet2 Develop your conviction.

Conviction is a firmness of belief. Believe that you can and will overcome any obstacles, develop self discipline, maintain your determination and succeed.
