There are voices on your left and right that need your attention. If you do a thing that is unappealing, you mind will wander and scatter. Putting your mental focus on the key areas of your life is therefore important. Anything that interests you gives you the energy. When you think of nothing else but what you are trying to achieve, you eliminate unnecessary distractions. A directed mental focus will enable you to work on a particular task to its completion.
