Career QuestionsHow is your career getting on? Are you taking it seriously or do you go to work just for the sake of the paid position or regular employment to get your fixed salary? Are you there to socialize and take the casual approach in getting your work done? How long have you held your job? Are you like some people who claimed that they have many years of working experience but in actual fact have been repeating the same task over the years. Have you made any career advancement? What knowledge and skills have you learned from your job? Do you think you are more marketable now and can demand for a higher income and more benefits? If you were to lose your occupation, do you think you have the skills and attitude to get another job within a couple of weeks? If you have the desire to advance in your profession, you cannot have the lackadaisical attitude. Every year more people are graduating and joining the job market. Competition is tough. You have to keep updated with new innovations, learn new skills, become more competent and change unproductive habits. Career AdviceIf you do not have any, it is about time that you identify and list them down.
If you realize that your current knowledge and skills are insufficient for your chosen field, learn and gather more information or take classes. What is required is your commitment to learn new things and technologies and put them to work. Specialized knowledge breaks you free from limitations. You can get more work done when you practice managing time and your tasks. Engaging in activities that are time wasters and majoring in minor tasks reduce productivity and affect performance and efficiency. It is comfortable to stay away from challenges and risks and join the majority of people who enjoy idle conversations and the unimportant issues. But that also means that you are not making yourself valuable in your field or industry. Check on how much time you spend on each activity. Focus on more important and high priority tasks and check your progress. Plan your activities in advance and think of the strategies required. You need to take action immediately, move faster and get more right things done in less time. It takes hard work, lots of discipline, positive thinking and the right attitude to gain any kind of success. To become outstanding in your vocation, put in more effort than others do. Your results and outputs are determined by how much you are willing to do and dare. The amount of extra labor and effort you put in by learning and doing will provide you the opportunities for future expansion and promotion in your present organization or in another industry. The experiences, knowledge and skills that you gain are never wasted. Sooner or later you will find them useful. In the course of your work you will meet many people. Get to know them and learn from them. Build better relationships with your coworkers and clients. Cultivate a circle of friends from different industries and profession because people are your resources. Your network of friends will provide you with more career choices and better job opportunities if you decide to take up another post or change your profession. You may not like your job now. You may even hate your boss. But while you are at it, get creative and learn. Put your ideas into effect. Take some intelligent risks. The worst that can happen is that your idea may not work. But if it does work, it is going to give you the confidence, the competence and the experience. Your Response or CommentWhat do you think? Return from career page to about personal growth homepage. |
