"One should keep going despite heavy weather for there is always calm ahead." - L. Ron Hubbard

It takes effort to remain calm when you are confronted with adversity or when you are in the midst of a conflict or confrontation. The majority of people will do what they always have done and that is to get distraught.

You are giving up control of your life each time you get agitated. It will later lead you to other negative related emotions, which in turn will affect your behavior.

If you keep your cool under all circumstances, you are able to see things in a different perspective. Your peaceful state of mind will enable you to concentrate of what you need to do instead of what has gone wrong.

In order to remain composed, learn to be at peace with yourself. Remind yourself that life presents challenges. Every challenge that you encounter provides lessons and an opportunity for you to strengthen your personal growth.

Your self-talks make you more disturbed. You must direct your thoughts to stay quiet. You do that through regular practice of meditation and focusing on your breath.

A relaxed and still mind allows you to experience a deeper understanding of what is going on within you. You need this tranquil and peaceful state to realize that things and people around you are not the cause of your anxiety. It is in you and how you see things.

It takes practice to maintain your composure and it is doable. You can choose to act composed in each situation that tests your attitude. You can opt to speak softly, maintain a serene expression and keep yourself steady. Your emotions will follow your physiology.

Another way to become composed is through regular visualization. Make mental images of how you want to act, feel and become.

You have conditioned yourself to act spontaneously. You can override the old mental conditioning with new instructions and images.

Regardless of what's happening, it will be over. Everything will remain just a memory and become history. If you keep remembering this, perhaps you would not allow things and people to affect your mind and your behavior.

"The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom." - James Allen
