Feeling Bored? What are the Causes?

Feeling bored and jaded is a state of a mind. Do you realize that you don't feel dull all the time? It happens when you don't know what to do with the time or space that you have, when there is nothing interesting to do, or when you don't like what you are doing.

Do you find your days listless and a humdrum, your relationship uninteresting, and your job boring? It's likely because it's not something that you are interested in, there is little or no progress and advancement or because of monotony. Too much routine or familiarity will make you feel sick and tired of life. When you get too fed up, you will try to find ways to cure your boredom.

Some people do compulsive shopping, eat too much or indulge in activities that bring excitement. Some of these activities are healthy while many are just to pass the time and are unproductive. If you observe, you'll find employees using their working hours doing things not related to their job to allow time to pass.

Cure for Boredom

bullet2 Shift your mindset.

Ask yourself these questions whenever you feel bored at work or at home.

  1. What makes you feel the way you do?

  2. What leads you to the feeling?

  3. Is there something or someone that is triggering your state of mind? What can you do to change it?

  4. What is likely to happen if you take a different action or change your thoughts about whatever it is that makes you feel uninterested?

  5. What do you really want to do instead of what you are doing now? Why aren't you doing them?

Asking questions, creating curiosity and pondering spur your imagination. When you know why and when you feel bored, it's easy to find the solutions.

bullet2 Try something that interests you.

List the things you can do that will bring more life and excitement. If you already have a few tasks to do from your list but haven't tried them, pick one and get going.

Doing things that interest you is never boring. Changing your body movements by taking actions will change your emotions and mental state. You can interrupt your jaded feeling by exercising, dancing or getting yourself involved in activities that raise your energy level.

bullet2 Bring back your desires.

What are your dreams and goals? What is your passion? Having a goal to work on will push you to do things. You won't feel sick and tired when you are doing something that you love and want to see them materializing.

bullet2 Do something else.

Do something good for someone that gives you a feeling of contribution. Helping others occupies your time and your mind. You can teach others something that you are good at.

Here's how you can share your knowledge or passion with others and make money from your effort.

You can also learn something new. Usually learning something new will lead you to something better which you have not expected or thought of. You will feel more effective and productive instead of being bored.

bullet2 Learn to enjoy and appreciate your relationship with yourself.

There are people who dread even the thought of being alone. If you tend to feel that way, you may have to understand yourself better. You don't have to run away and avoid being on your own and alone.

You can take the opportunity that is missed by many people for self reflection. You can look at how you have been talking to yourself and describing your thoughts and experiences.

You can use this time to express your creativity in writing or drawing. You could look deeper and find ways to become more resourceful and alive. You may come to a realization that there are routines, habits and attitudes that you should drop to enable you to find more joy and excitement.
