Benefits of Yoga

Before you read about the benefits of yoga, here are some history and facts.

Yoga originated from India about 5000 years ago. It is a Sanskrit word meaning to yoke, join together or bind. It started as a practice for spiritual growth and the mastery over the physical body and the mind, bringing them together into a union. It was a method of discipline and an exercise on breathing and meditation.

What yoga means now is a set of movement techniques, series of poses and physical postures. The routines emphasize on stretching, attentive breathing and relaxation.

Now, many people are taking up this alternative exercise routine because they are aware of the health benefits of yoga and that it doesn't conflict with any religious beliefs.

"Yoga is 99% practice and 1% theory." - Sri Krishna Pattabhi Jois
