Being out of balance is one of the reasons for stress in life. With several roles and responsibilities to carry out daily and having to juggle the demands of work, family and personal life, a person can feel overwhelmed.

It is a daunting task to do a balancing act. But it has to be done otherwise problems will arise if you focus too much attention on one area of your life and neglect the others.

A well adjusted lifestyle has to include physical, recreational and mental activities, socializing and participating, and putting aside time for personal and spiritual growth.


Work and then play

Work while you work and love what you do. Doing a good job gives you personal satisfaction and makes you feel worthy. But don't get obsessed with it. There is time for work and also for play.


At the end of your work day and work week, put aside time for exercise, a hobby or recreation. There are so many benefits of getting involved in activities outside work. Some of them are being able to maintain good health, keeping your weight under control, reducing stress, improving your relationship and increasing your energy level.


Mental activities

Having the right way of thinking is very important. You will manage, control and balance your relationship, career, finances, time, emotions and your personal life better with the right mental attitude. If you complain that you don't have time and are too busy, it has more to do with your attitude and bad personal management.


Put aside at least half an hour each day to stimulate your mind. You can use the time to read self help books, try mind mapping, visualizing, do brain teasers or anything else that stimulate your mind.


Socializing and participating

Spend quality time with your family each day. One of the easiest ways to have a family time is to have dinner together. Put your work aside during the weekends and have fun with them.


Schedule time to hang out with your friends and participate in activities that improve your relationship, teamwork and comradeship.


Personal and spiritual growth

One of the ways to seek balance and stability in your life is to allow time for your personal and spiritual growth. It means allowing time for meditation, contemplation or prayer. This is one of the ways to release your daily stresses and anxieties, regain your energy and for self discovery.

How to Attain a Balanced Life

Know your personal values

Identify your personal values. You lose your sense of balance when your actions contradict your values. Doing something against your will creates tension and disharmony in your system. List down what are the important things in your life. It's easier to balance your life if you are aware of your principles, standards and ideals.


Identify your goals

Write down your list of short, medium and long term goals. What are your career goals? What do you want to accomplish for and with your family? What do you want for yourself? Categorize them and then pick one out of each category, allocate the time you are going to spend on each goal per day and do them.


This will eliminate wasting your energy from running around, going in circles and getting yourself exhausted or frustrated. It also helps you avoid activities that are unrelated.


Set your priorities

Schedule your priorities. Know what needs to get done or you'll end up not accomplishing much because you are in a state of chaos and confusion. Reorder your tasks and differentiate which are the "should" and the "must" do.


Manage your emotions

Try to create as much good feeling as you can. The time that you spend on being angry, anxious and worry is a waste. Become aware of your bad feelings, snap out of it and replace them with good ones and maintain your poise. Don't entertain negative thoughts and people.


Take time off alone

Get some quiet times. The world is going around with so much to absorb that you can get overwhelmed. Your body needs to relax and your soul requires nourishment. Take time to calm your mind by meditating and being in silence in your own personal space.
